Stop Smoking with Acupuncture

by Dr. Alan Magner

Acupuncture can help you Quit Smoking

For those with a strong desire to stop smoking, Acupuncture's success rate is fairly high. That means that if you really want, you could quit smoking quickly, inexpensively, and painlessly. Read on.

It's a Bad Habit

Everyone knows smoking cigarettes is bad for everyone’s health. It can cause lung cancer, heart disease and chronic bronchitis. It can make asthma and allergies much worse. It can cause fires. It stinks, and it’s expensive!

So why are so many people unable to stop smoking?

Smoking is Addictive

Cigarette tobacco is an extremely addictive product. It contains numerous chemicals, including tars and nicotine that can wreak havoc on our body’s cells, especially our brain cells. It’s felt by many authorities that cigarette smoke is more addictive than most narcotic drugs. And very importantly it can be just as harmful to innocent bystanders, whose own health is jeopardized just by breathing the second-hand smoke generated by those smokers nearby. Young children may be harmed permanently!

That’s why such a strong movement has been underway for years now to encourage people to stop smoking. More and more businesses, schools, restaurants and bars, and now even entire cities are banning any smoking in public areas. All our local hospitals have finally passed regulations forbidding smoking anywhere near or on any hospital property, even outdoor parking lots.

So the pressure is really on for those people addicted to cigarettes to quit smoking.

Commit to Quit

Quitting is not easy. Many different ways of helping have been tried and offered. For example, Traditional Chinese medicine for many years has offered acupuncture as one of the ways to help stop this addictive habit. Many people try to quit smoking abruptly on their own (“cold turkey”). Self-help groups of various kinds are available.  Professional psychologists have offered their help. Pharmaceutical companies have developed a number of products to try to help. Some of these techniques work well for some people, but not for others. Some take more time than others. Costs vary considerably.

Acupuncture can help you Stop Smoking

Acupuncture makes use of tiny needles placed in specific areas of the body to stimulate the brain to end the desire for nicotine and lessen the side-effects of withdrawal. Often only 2-4 treatments are required to quit smoking. The success rate is fairly high, but one certainly has to start out with a strong inner desire and commitment to quit. That desire is necessary for almost any program to be successful. Acupuncture is easy, painless, relatively inexpensive, and quick.

For those looking for an effective and successful way to stop smoking, definitely consider acupuncture. It could save your life!
